There’s a pair of Belgians I see almost every day, standing on a slight rise and calmly surveying the neighborhood. Always together and always interested. In making the drawing for this quilt, I was remembering the painted animals in the Altimira and Lascaux caves. Many of these 20,000-year old-animal figures are drawn with strong elegant evocative outlines, sometimes filled in with color, sometimes not. Here’s my attempt to use something of that style of drawing to make a quilt of the horses in a snow-filled pasture.
