Ikat is a weaving technique in which the weft (crosswise) threads are pattern-dyed BEFORE they are woven into cloth. In Double Ikat, both the weft and the warp threads are pattern-dyed first. This gives a soft sketchy edge to the different colors. The Leaf fabric with the peach background is an ikat. ON the back of the quilt is one big piece of a commercial reproduction of an elaborate marbleized dye job.
