I've wanted to make this quilt for quite some time. Here in Colrain, the night sky is very dark and the constellation Orion is shines out between the bare branches of the maple trees outside my bedroom window all winter long. I've collected buttons for years: this quilt used just about half of my shell buttons. The different sizes of the pieced silk stars and the different sizes of the buttons are somewhat related to the magnitude of the stars they represent. A bit of the Milky Way is in the upper left corner of the quilt.
