About Ruth’s Lace Quilts:

Ruth collected antique handmade lace and home textiles for fifty years, found at rummage and estate sales. In 2019, she decided it was time to start using up her stash, working the lace and textiles into a series of experimental quilts, shown in the following section. Many of these quilts also utilize Ruth’s collection of hand-dyed fabrics. These quilts are all signed and dated by Ruth; some have sewn signatures and dates, and some are signed and dated in Sharpie, either on the front of the quilt, or on a label sewn to the back.

“Mrs. McCormick” is Katherine Dexter McCormick, an early MIT graduate who gifted the Institute the dorm I lived in while I was a student there. I bought the curtain this lace is taken from, along with several other high-end textiles that had belonged to her, at an estate sale in the 1970s.
